Greetings Sherman! Back To The Future is one of my all-time-favorites. Thanks for sharing these great ideas with us. They may be "common knowledge" among marketers who received their MBA's but for us "Internet Jocks" these are great little tid-bits for us to absorb. After a year of "getting ready" I now realize how important it is to set goals and focus on them. I look forward to your next postings and I'll definitely check out Ann's site.

Great stuff Sherman. So many marketers tend to be fly by the seat of their pants type of people and never really set down and plan and set goals.

I especilaly like the advice you were given by your pastor on taking a planning vaction. I never heard of that one before, as vacations usually entail forgetting about your troubles and daily liife.

Sherman, I'll keep coming back here looking for more of your great insights.

Very good advice. It is so easy to get caught up with our day to day living that we forget to take time to plan our future. When we neglect to strategically create our vision for our future, the result is we live our life by default.

[…] Blogging entrepreneur extraordinaire, Sherman Hu sent an e-mail today with the header:

Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need any roads!

He, of course, was referring to the famous line in Back To The Future.

What he was suggesting in this correspondence was that, in order to be successful, you need to look ahead, into the future. He proposed an exercise where you write as if from three years from now, to a friend with whom you’ve lost touch for three years. In other words, try to imagine what you might write about your accomplishments in three years.. […]
